My Pizza Experience in Fairbanks, Alaska
Fairbanks is a major hub for a lot of our travel when we’re filming in Alaska. If we’re headed to the far north, ANWAR, Denali, or any of the other surrounding areas, we’ll usually start and finish in Fairbanks. I don’t crave pizza before a shoot, or during a shoot, as it is notoriously forced upon camera crews as an expectable second meal after long shoot days, but there is something about a warm pizza after a winter shoot in Alaska that is vital to re-assimilation into polite society.
Whenever we wrap filming and finally emerge from the remote bush, layered in frost-kissed gear, the allure of a hot slice of pizza from “big city” Fairbanks beckons like a beacon of civilization. Having subsisted on dehydrated food and campfire fare, the first thing our Arctic-hardened palates usually crave is a hot slice of pizza and a stiff shot of whiskey. I haven’t had them all, but I know how to spot a good one, so join me as I share the unexpected delight of discovering Fairbanks’ best pizza joints.

Best Pizza in Fairbanks, Alaska
So without any further ado, here’s a list, in no particular order, of our favorite Pizza restaurants in Fairbanks, Alaska. Hope you enjoy!
East Ramp Wood-Fired Pizza
My wife is from an Italian family and when we first meet she would always talk about the perfect margarita pizza and how its simplicity was its secret to success. I had always been more of a “load me up with ALL the toppings” kinda guy; then we took a trip to Italy and I had my first real Italian margarita pizza….. and hot damn she was right.
East Ramp Pizza in Fairbanks reminds me of that simplistic Italian approach that elevates a simple pizza to fine dining. They import Italian Caputo 00 flour, use Ciao tomatoes for the homemade sauce, and bake them in a wood-stone oven. Just a few simple really good ingredients equals a damn fine pizza.
This Fairbanks pizza joint has a pretty unique location as well. It’s located right next to the Fairbanks airport tower and looks out over both runways. It’s filled with all sorts of airplane parts and memorabilia. Order a pie and a pint and watch the bush planes swarm the tarmac like mosquitos on a pond.
Address: 3788 University Ave S Ste 301 Fairbanks, AK 99709 Phone: (907) 451-7492
House of Fire
Relatively new to the pizza scene in Fairbanks, the first House of fire location opened in 2019 and it did so well they opened a second location in 2021. They boast east coast style pies, both Sicilian and NY. House of fire abides by the Italian mindset of “keep it simple”, they use top notch ingredients and prepare them with love and attention to detail.
Their cozy restaurants were designed to imitate Boston’s North End, a popular Italian niehgborhood. Think lots of brick, candles, and fake grapes; kind of gaudy old Italy, but it works. They sell offer beer, wine, salads, and even a large breakfast menu at their Badger Rd location.
East Location Address: 300 Old Steese Highway 1 Fairbanks, AK 99701 Phone: (907) 374-2941
West Location Address: 300 Old Steese Hwy Ste 1 Fairbanks, AK 99701 Phone: (907) 374-3477
The Hungry Robot
The Hungry Robot uses high quality ingredients to make their wood-fired pizzas, and they don’t skimp on the toppings. They do pizza’s like “Murdered by Meat”, “Thai Town” and the “Bogan” a really tasty BBQ pork pizza with smoked gouda cheese and red onions.
And If you’re into whacky pizza’s this is definitely the pizza place to come to in Fairbanks. Their “Dilly Dilly” pizza has a roasted garlic cream sauce base, shredded mozzarella, more than a handful of dill pickles, and is topped with a drizzle of garlic dill ranch dressing and Parmesan Romano. I haven’t had it, but people swear by it.
They’re located on the east end of Fairbanks near the Old Steese Hwy. If you’re dining in they also have 12 different kinds of ice cream. Use their online menu to place your order: Hungry Robot Menu.
Address: 910 Old Steese Hwy Unit C Fairbanks, AK 99709 Phone: (907) 347-8117
Wagners Pizza Bus
The Wagners Pizza Bus just outside of Fairbanks, is Alaskan creativity and grit at its finest. This adorable bus in the woods has been slinging pie’s year round since 2013. They serve hand-stretched, stone-baked pizzas, authentic Chicago-style, Detroit Style, and an enormous 18″ New Yorker, as well as custom calzones and stromboli.
It wouldn’t seem like they have the room but the menu also includes chicken wings, hoagies, burgers, and a selection of milkshakes and hand-dipped sundaes. I’m pretty sure there is a secret hatch on the bus floor that leads to a basement full of magical pizza making elves.
This Fairbanks pizza joint is off the beaten path, but totally worth it. It’s located in Two Rivers on Anders Avenue, just off Zuendel Road at 24 mile Chena Hot Springs Rd. Or just click here for directions from Fairbanks.
Address: 7585 Anders Ave Fairbanks, AK 99712 Phone:(907) 490-0336
Great Alaska Pizza Company
Sometimes you just need something fast, cheap, and reliable. That’s why this Fairbanks pizza joint makes our list. It certainly isn’t the best pizza in Fairbanks and it should probably be more aptly named Mediocre Alaska Pizza Company, but I could see how that wouldn’t go over well during a marketing pitch.
This servicable Little Caesars nock off of the north offers all the standard take away pizza fare. Breadsticks, wings, sad salads, and 2-liters of soda. It’s open till 11 on the weekends and 10 on weeknights.
Address: 411 Merhar Ave Fairbanks, AK 99701 Phone: (907) 452-3733
